This book has great stories about founding father Alexander Hamilton and his advice to his children. The stories demonstrate Hamilton as he was, not as his enemies (Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Rush) defined him after his early death.The biggest challenge with this book is that many of the lefthand pages were not copied fully so the last word of each sentence, closest to the internal margin, is missing. Annoying but not a deal killer since it is fairly easy to figure out what the missing word should be. However, if using this for research than greater accuracy would be needed.

This book is mostly reproductions of letters to and from James Hamilton, many referring to his father and exonerating Alexander Hamilton from Jefferson's criticisms. However, many of the letters refer to people and,to some extent, events that are not explained and are not part of common knowledge in the modern day. It is a great reference material for events of the era, including up through the Civil War but by no means an easy read. There is often little text explaining how and why the letters were written.
As another reviewer mentioned, for about the first 50 pages, the left hand pages are truncated. In some cases as many as three words are missing. This is especially confusing when it is clear that a person's name is probably the missing word and the rest of the context does not make the situation clear. That was very slow going.
